Mauritania is located at the crossroads between North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. It has a long coastal front facing the Atlantic Ocean on the Western side of the country.
Mauritania is amongst on of the largest countries of the African continent with an area of (1,030,700 km²). It is bordered by Western Sahara, Morocco and Algeria in the north, Mali in the east and south, Senegal in the south-east and the Atlantic Ocean in the west.
Nouakchott is the capital city of Mauritania, its name originated from the Berber for the “Place of the winds”. It has a temperate climate and is largest urban centre in Mauritania with a population estimated to be about two million inhabitants.
